Body Boundaries, Consent, & Respect by Jayneen Sanders

This book serves as a direct way to talk about body boundaries, consent, and respecting the boundaries of others. As it talks about each subject, it also offers a scenario, prompting the reader to consider the next right step. One of the great things about this book specifically is that at the end of the book, it offers up suggested conversations and questions for caregivers and educators to talk about with kids to deepen comprehension.

My Body Belongs to Me from My Head to My Toes by Pro Familia

This book is approachable with short sentences on each page and great illustrations! It starts with some body positivity, moves on to examples of good touches, and finishes with examples of unwanted touches and how to respond. It really encourages kids on how to use their voices assertively in unwanted touch and what to do when someone doesn’t respect our “no”. Lastly, it offers up contact information for several organizations that focus on assault prevention and children abuse.

ABC of Body Safety and Consent by Jayneen Sanders

As one might expect, this book uses each of the letters as the alphabet to drive home following Body Safety Rules:

My body is my body

Safety Network

Early Warning Signs

Private Parts

No Secrets

It is designed to be more of a conversational read spread out over several sessions. As she did in the other aforementioned book, the author offers up discussion points for each of the letters of the alphabet, helping the adult to facilitate conversations about body safety and consent. I award bonus points for the diversity of the characters in the book, hopefully allowing many individuals to feel included in being able to set boundaries with their bodies.
