We’ve all heard the phrase, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again.” As inspirational as that quote may be, let’s be honest, doing something over again can often lead to feelings of disappointment and fear.

Doing something for the first time has a major impact on us. However, when we do it again, the impact is much more meaningful. Trying again can still be scary but it is a familiar scary. You have a plan. You know the pressure. You change the strategy. The unknown becomes known and often, recognizable. Resistance knows you conquered it before and therefore loses its original power.

Doing something for the second time leaves space to experiment, to try harder, to go bolder. You get to expand broader and try to gain more confidence in the process. When you know and believe you can do it, the moment of anxiety is tamed. Make sure to recognize that moment. Doing it again allows you to express your authentic self and push yourself to the next level.

Doing something for the first time is the learning curve, the road map. A curve to create motivation and bravery, that only helps us when we get over the feelings of defeat, and try again. One of my favorite quotes is by Thomas Edison, “I haven’t failed. I have found 10,000 ways that don’t work.” So today, I challenge you, that thing that left you feeling defeated, do it again.
