Misconceptions of Therapy
What are the Benefits of Therapy?
Can Therapy Help You?
Don’t let misconceptions about therapy stand in your way of a positive healing process for moving forward. Misguided information (just to name a few) says…
Only weak, crazy, and mentally ill people seek therapy.
Therapists are not connected to what you are saying (they just take notes).
Therapists and clients become best friends.
Therapy is just a lot of talk.
Therapy consist of ready-made solutions for all of your problems.
Therapist blame the client’s upbringing (the past, parents, and the client).
Therapy can be solved in one or two sessions.
Therapist make clients feel better after each session.
…and the list of misconceptions go on.
There are benefits to choosing therapy. You don’t need a formal diagnosis (psychiatric diagnosis) to benefit from therapy. However, it is important to recognize the need for help when experiencing overwhelming emotions and negative behaviors that influence/control your ability to deal with everyday life efficiently. Therapy can help with anxiety, depression, unhealthy repeating patterns, addiction, grief, relationship issues, family issues, etc. No issues are too small or too big.
Therapy enables your ability to make positive change. Therapy can help you, if you want help, and are willing to invest in the work. Therapy starts with you building an alliance with your therapist while not holding back information that is needed to support the start of your positive healing process.
