You may be wondering…

What in the world is the “Q-Tip Challenge?” It begins with a story.

In June of 2014 my wife and I stated our vows and said “I do.” After our incredible honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, we both came home to a clean apartment, $150.00 in our bank account, and many, many new clothes in our closet. Before our wedding, I had lived alone in our future apartment for about a year and a half.

I tried the whole roommate thing in college a few times and decided that it just was not for me (sorry Caleb and Cary). So, when my wife moved in, I knew this was forever.

My wife will sometimes wear makeup (even though she absolutely does not need to). When she ever so gracefully applies her eye liner and mascara, she will then proceed to gently wipe away excess makeup with a Q-Tip or 2.

The Choice

Normally, my wife would leave for the day before I decide to stop hitting the snooze button. When I would walk into the bathroom, I would usually see 1 or 2 Q-Tips lying on the bathroom counter. To say the least, it was sometimes frustrating (the trash can was literally right there!) but I continued to recall a conversation I had before we tied the knot.

  • “How can I serve my wife?”
  • “Am I being a servant leader?”
  • “How can I help to make my wife the best that she can be?”
  • “How am I loving her?”

Even in the simplicity of a single Q-Tip – every morning that I saw a Q-Tip, I chose to serve, lead, (clean) and love my wife. After some months, something incredible happened – I stopped seeing Q-Tips. Then, something even more incredible happened – I was excited to see a Q-Tip on the counter! I was almost bummed when I didn’t have that single opportunity to love my wife.

Husbands – As leaders, you take responsibility for the relationship, serving like Christ. Serve in obedience to God, placing your wife’s needs above your own. Make your wife’s load lighter – not heavier, make her the best she can be. Praise her for her life, her gifts and talents, love unconditionally and sacrificially.

The Challenge

The challenge is simple.

  • Love your spouse.
  • Serve your spouse.
  • Cherish your spouse.
  • Extend grace to your spouse.
  • Forgive your spouse.
  • Honor your spouse.
  • Respect your spouse.
  • Listen to your spouse.
  • Trust your spouse.
  • Cry with your spouse.
  • Choose your spouse. Every. Single. Day.

What are your Q-Tips? Choose today to make your spouse/partner the best spouse/partner he or she can ever be.
