Body Love

Do you ever stop to think about the extraordinary things that your body can do? My theory is that most of you do not think about what your body can do, instead you probably think about what your body can’t do. You live in a world that is constantly bombarding you with messages about how to perfect your body. Use anti-aging cream, to look 10 years younger, use hair color, to take away the gray, follow this diet plan, to lose 25 lbs., do this exercise, to reduce your middle, tummy tuck this, and Botox that.

Messages you receive daily about your body are that your body is not good enough and you need to change your body, in order to feel good about yourself. These messages often lead to body hatred and/or significant body dissatisfaction. The next time you find yourself talking negatively, about your body, commenting about your body size, or shape, or the wrinkles, on your face, or the color, of your hair, stop to think about the amazing facets,of your body, instead. Check the condemning, self-ridiculing voice, within your head, and change the body hatred message, into a body love message. Below are some ways to celebrate the beautiful body God gave you, not ridicule it.

  • See your wrinkles as a sign, of wisdom and laughter. They are beautiful and natural.
  •  Remember your arms and hands provide so much love and assurance, through hugs, pats on the shoulder, gentle touches, to soothe a hurting family member or friend, and friendly handshakes
  • Affirm your belly, as the center, of your body. You can experience deep belly laughs, with loved ones, and for women, your bellies are the homes, of your unborn babies
  • Know your legs and feet enable you to run and jump, walk and skip, dance and twirl, ride a bike, snow ski, ice skate, roller skate, and so much more.

Your bodies are amazing and allow you to do so much. Instead of hating your body because it does not look like the airbrushed, fake pictures, in magazines, celebrate your body, for all it can do. Love your body and speak kindly, to your body.
